Inaugural Autism Conference: Autism is Not Black & White: It is a Spectrum- Los Angeles, CA
On October 23rd, 2014, an alliance of UCLA researchers, community service providers, educators, nurses, and other health care workers, along with concerned parents and family members came together for a first of its kind community oriented event. Attended by over 300 people at the Holman United Methodist Church in South Los Angeles, this public service conference aimed to bridge the gap between health care professionals, researchers, and members of the community. The conference provided a platform for the African American community in South Los Angeles to voice their concerns, opinions, and questions while also creating a unique opportunity to actively engage in dialogue with researchers, educators, and health care professionals about the growing public health issue of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
